Rerum Novarum

Rerum Novarum is an encyclical issued by Pope Leo XIII on May 15th 1891 that protects the rights and duties of labor and capital. It was issue at a time of immense social change in Europe, a rise in industrialization and the influence of capitalism and communism among workers.

This social encyclical addresses the dehumanizing conditions in which workers’ rights to proper wages, fair treatment, to form unions, and proper rest.
