Basics: Timing in Animation

  • Timing in animation is important!
  • 24 FRAMES PER SECOND = 12 drawings
  • 1 drawing per 2 frames
  • A one hour movie at 24 fps = 43200 drawings
  • Keyframes are when your object of animation goes through a change.
  • Basically, the more keyframes you have, the slower your animation
  • Less keyframes: faster animation
  • Luckily with Animatron, there are some animation templates we can edit from straightaway

Activity 1: Let's start

  • Create a circle, drag it to the workspace
  • Choose a background
  • Using the timeline, make the shape BOUNCE 2 times in 3 secs.
  • You have 20 mins!

Activity 2: Conversation

  • Set up two characters in a background of your choice.
  • Have the characters say the dialogue as follows, in speech bubbles:
Person A: Good morning! How are you today? Person B: Hello, I'm doing well, thank you for asking. Person A: Good to hear!
  • The animation should be 10 seconds long.
  • When done, export it out as a video.
  • You have 15 mins!
