Sustainability below water

Mare Gioioso deals with sustainability through the recycling of waste, transforning them into useful material for their work. In fact, they have machines that gather the polystyrene poeder from boxes where they place the fish, to create new ones. Before entering into a contract with other vessels, they check that they also fish sustainably, because some of them use very small nets with the risk of catching fish species that are too small.

Fishing boats

Every day, a fleet of 70 fishing vessels operates along the entire Apulian coast and exclusively supplies its product to Mare Gioioso. In addition to the fresh local catch, the company can count on many fish products that come from the seas of Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, as well as from certified Italian and foreign farms. .

Sustainability in the kitchen

Mare Gioioso also has three restaurants, where sustainability and recycling are also practiced. The chef showed us that new dishes are made with fish scraps. Restaurants name: Porta de ma, Monopoli. Gaudium, Torre Canne. Yorokobi, Fasano.

Port'Alga

In the past, fishing was practiced with the 'Gozzi', ancient boats made of wood. Mr. Leo, who has been a fisherman for ten years, explained how fishing has changed over the years. in fact, these boats are no longer used, instead, motorboats are used. This has caused a radical change in the sea and the beings that live in it. Climate change has caused the sea waters to warm up over the years, increasing the number of species, including tuna.
